Question 1

How far is 7000 blocks in the Nether?

Accepted Answer

In Minecraft, 7,000 blocks in the Nether equals 56,000 blocks in the Overworld when comparing horizontal travel distance. This is because the Nether-to-Overworld coordinate ratio is 1:8. Traveling through the Nether can therefore save a significant amount of time when covering long distances.

Question 2

Is 1 block in Nether 7 in Overworld?

Accepted Answer

No. 1 block in the Nether equals 8 blocks in the Overworld, not 7. For example, traveling 100 blocks along the X-axis in the Nether corresponds to 800 blocks along the X-axis in the Overworld. This ratio applies to horizontal X and Z coordinates, not the Y coordinate (height).

Question 3

Is 00 in the Nether 00 in the Overworld?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The coordinates X: 0, Z: 0 in the Nether correspond to X: 0, Z: 0 in the Overworld. The origin remains the same in both dimensions because multiplying zero by eight still gives zero. However, a portal's exact exit location can differ because Minecraft searches for a suitable portal or location nearby.

Question 4

Are Nether coordinates divided by 8?

Accepted Answer

No. To convert Nether coordinates to Overworld coordinates, multiply the X and Z coordinates by 8. To convert Overworld coordinates to Nether coordinates, divide the X and Z coordinates by 8.

For example:

ConversionX coordinateZ coordinateOverworld → Nether800 ÷ 8 = 100-400 ÷ 8 = -50Nether → Overworld100 × 8 = 800-50 × 8 = -400

Remember: The 8:1 ratio applies to horizontal coordinates (X and Z). The Y coordinate represents height and does not use this conversion ratio. Minecraft may also place a linked portal at a slightly different position if the ideal location is unsuitable or another portal is closer.
